The University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Incheon Free Economic Zone (IFEZ) in Seoul, South Korea, to explore opportunities for transnational education. This agreement advances the University’s ambition to enhance our global presence by establishing three further international campuses by 2030.
The MOU will allow us to explore the possibility of establishing a campus at Incheon Global Campus, in South Korea. We will assess demand and market conditions, as well as consider the operational requirements for setting up a major new campus at Incheon Global Campus.
This follows the signing a Letter of Intent to pursue this opportunity when the Commissioner of Incheon Free Economic Zone visited the University earlier in May.
The University continues to consider and investigate a number of opportunities to grow our international partnerships and investigate potential sites for international campuses. The identified opportunities will be carefully assessed and the team will work closely with relevant boards and committees including UEB, International Education Group, Educational Partnerships Sub Committee, and Education & Student Experience Committee and Schools to understand the needs and opportunities of each potential campus.
Professor Andrew Atherton, Vice-President International and Engagement said:
“Increasing our international presence through campuses enables the University to deliver world class research, education and enterprise on a global scale through significant and strategic partnerships. These campuses will be integral to our ability and ambition to grow worldwide. Korea has a very strong higher education sector, with world-class universities and a vibrant research and innovation culture, so it is an exciting opportunity for the University.”
