Development and support opportunities for doctoral supervisors in June

Whether you are an experienced supervisor or new to the role, there are opportunities for professional development during June.

Progression Review and PGR Manager workshop (online) – Thursday 13 June 

Open to all PGR Supervisors, the Progression Review and PGR Manager workshop on Thursday 13 June, 12:00 – 13:00 is an opportunity to hear about the criteria and process for progression review and examination. This is a practically focused session with the opportunity to ask questions and troubleshoot any issues that you are experiencing, related to progression review or PGR Manager. Prof Tracey Newman (FDoGS in Medicine), Prof Alan McAlpine (FDoGS in FEPS) and Luke Fletcher (Continuous Improvement Lead in Doctoral College) will be available to answer any queries.

PGR Supervisor Induction – Expectations of Research Supervision Workshop (in-person) – Thursday 20 June 

Are you new to supervising PGRs at Southampton?  

If so, the new Supervisor Induction workshop is for you and will take place on Thursday 20 June, 13:00 – 16:00, in-person, on Highfield campus. 

This workshop, which will also be repeated in September (date TBA), will support discussion and reflection of key aspects and approaches to supervision, linking to the UKRI statement of expectations for doctoral training 2024 and the Good Supervisory Practice Framework UKCGE 2023. Expect an open discursive approach with group discussions, case studies and other activities to apply the research literature and sector wide learnings into practice while also raising awareness of resources to support the role. 

Participants should undertake the Introduction to doctoral supervision eLearning course before attending this workshop.
