We are now ranked joint 12th in the UK and joint 12th among Russell Group universities which is a jump of 2 places since last year.

Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mark E Smith said:

“I am delighted with our 80th place in the QS WUR rankings for 2025 which further consolidates our position in the top 100 universities in the world for now an extended period.

“Over the last few years we have been steadily growing our global reputation, demonstrating our excellence in teaching and research and I would like to thank everyone for the hard work which has made this possible.

“It is also pleasing to see improvements in two metrics: Citations per Faculty which has gone up 40 places and is a reflection of our excellent research; and Sustainability which went up 99 places and is a result of the hard work carried out by staff on a range of initiatives under our Sustainability Strategic Plan, including embedding sustainability in all education programmes.”

The QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) rankings are based on a range of indicators that focus on excellence in teaching and research, the reputation of universities amongst employers and fellow academics, and the international mix of students and staff.
