The University has created a dedicated scholarship to help talented UK-domiciled Black and mixed-Black heritage students fund their PhD study at Southampton.
Studying for a PhD involves you making an independent research contribution to your chosen field. By doing a PhD at the University of Southampton, you will become part of our exciting research environment, with access to cutting-edge facilities and global collaborations.
We know that finding the funding to do a PhD can be a cause of concern, which is why we’ve created the Black Futures scholarship to help you pursue your research passion.
What does the scholarship offer?
Each scholarship comprises a £20,000 per annum tax-free stipend for 3.5 years, with full UK fees paid and an annual researcher training and support grant of £1,000 per year.
Who’s eligible?
The Black Futures scholarships are open to applicants who:
- are eligible for UK/home fees,
- have Black or mixed-Black heritage,
- and have applied for a research postgraduate programme at Southampton starting in the 2024/25 academic year.
