UKRI cross research council responsive mode (CRCRM) pilot: round 2

UKRI has pre-announced the UKRI cross research council responsive mode pilot scheme: round 2. UKRI aims to fund a portfolio of 36 interdisciplinary research projects in the range £200k-£1.2m.  This funding is for breakthrough or disruptive interdisciplinary ideas that transcend, combine or significantly span disciplines that are not routinely funded through existing UKRI responsive mode schemes.

RFD are hosting a briefing session for this opportunity on 3 July, this will be online via Teams from 12:30-13:30. This will cover:

  • Overview of Round 2
  • Feedback from Round 1
  • Details of the internal demand management process
  • Summary of support available to potential applicants

UKRI have introduced institutional caps for this round, Southampton can submit up to 12 outlines bids, which includes those applicants invited to resubmit from round 1.

  • Those whose applications were rejected at the outline stage of round 1 are eligible for resubmission to round 2, subject to the internal selection process.
  • Those whose round 1 full bids were rejected at peer review or panel assessment stages will be subject to the UKRI resubmission rules (the aims/objectives/ideas will need to differ substantially from previously submitted applications).

Further details of the internal selection process can be found on the RFD SharePoint site. We are asking those who are interested in applying to complete the Intent to Submit Form by 17 July. This is not a mandatory step, but it will provide useful information to the Research Funding Development Team to help with the internal demand management process and to provide applicants with the necessary support as they develop their applications. The mandatory EoI submission deadline: 13 September 2024.

The RFD Leads for this activity are Emily Nisbet and Sarah Billingham, please contact [email protected].
