Have you ever wondered how to encourage students to talk in seminars and classes? What are the barriers to participation? How do you overcome them and structure classroom activities to encourage greater involvement?
Facilitation skills: A resource guide for small group learning and teaching has been developed to support anyone delivering discussion seminars and classes for small groups of students.
It has been designed by Pina Franco (Teaching Fellow, CHEP) and reviewed by Neil Ford (Principal Teaching Fellow, CHEP) and focuses on the active learning approach to learning and teaching.
This resource will show you the barriers to participation and then illustrate several facilitation techniques that you can try in your next session.
Facilitation techniques workshop
There is an in-person workshop that takes place twice a year to complement this written resource, and the next one is happening on Tuesday 15 October. Find out more and book your place.
