As many of you will have seen preparation work is continuing on the North East Quadrant site ahead of the construction of a next generation teaching and learning building.
The works will shortly be entering a new phase, during which more intensive ground works will be completed and it will not be safe for staff to continue to walk through the middle of the site along the footpath that is currently in place.
From Monday 22 July staff and students approaching the site from the direction of Hampton Car Park will have two options to reach Highfield campus. Anyone accessing the University can turn right as they approach the site up Broadlands Road (toward Burgess Road) and then turn left at Burgess Road to access the north of Highfield campus, or they can turn left along Broadlands Road and use a newly installed footpath (open from Monday 15 July) to access the campus via South Broadlands Car Park.
Details of the new route can be found below, alongside a map from the contractor highlighting the sequence of works.
In order to finish the installation of the hoarding line, 10 pay and display parking bays within the Pay and Display car park next to Building 16 will be temporarily closed from Monday 22 July to Thursday 24 July.
Kier, the contractor working on the project, will also be installing a new pedestrian footbridge within South Broadlands Car Park. Work will be beginning on this shortly and will provide direct access to the University from South Broadlands Car Park.
The bridge is due to be completed by the beginning of August and will provide access to the University. Below you will find a map highlighting the location of the bridge.
Once completed the steps and access route to the University via the wooded area will be closed for the duration of the project.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the re-routing of the footpath, as always the safety of staff and students is paramount and this change in footpath route has been planned to keep you safe during this project.
