NSS results 2024

The Office for Students (OfS) published data for the 2024 National Student Survey (NSS) on 10 July 2024.

72% of our final year students responded to the NSS.  This is a rise of 2% on last year.

We are delighted to say we have improved in all metrics, with our overall average, an internally derived positivity score, increasing to 79% from 77% last year. An institutional summary is available on the Strategic Planning & Analytics SharePoint page, linked here, and subject level NSS results are now available in a new student experience Power BI app released by the Strategic Planning & Analytics team.

Professor Deborah Gill, Vice-President (Education and Student Experience), said:

“This has been a positive year for NSS at Southampton. A lot of work across Professional Services, programme and Faculty teams and the Student Union has gone into addressing some of the challenges facing our students and this is reflected in our largely positive scores. The rise in the Organisation and Management metric is particularly impressive. This result puts us in a great position against our competitors. The University will use the NSS analysis to continue working with colleagues on building on these achievements to develop and deliver a world class student experience for all of our students. Thank you to all colleagues who have worked to, and continue to work to, achieve this.”

Professor Mark E. Smith, Vice-Chancellor, commented:

“I’m delighted to see the rise in our NSS scores, and I would like to thank all colleagues who have worked so hard towards this. NSS provides us with a very useful set of data to see what our students think about their education, where we do well and the  areas we need to continue to improve in. This result shows we have made good progress against key competitors. I am sure colleagues will be determined to further improve the experience of our students which I greatly appreciate.”
