The Summer 2024 edition of our research and enterprise magazine, Re:action, spotlights how the University’s research and knowledge exchange activities are informing and enriching policymaking regionally, nationally and in some cases globally.
The University Strategy calls for our world-leading research to be used to solve the most complex societal and environmental challenges. One of the key elements to realising this ambition is the translation of our research outcomes into policy interventions.
In this edition of Re:action you can read about research that is informing the NICE guidelines on the prescribing of antidepressants to treat chronic pain; Clean Air South’s work with policymakers to improve Southampton’s air quality, and Professor Jonathan Havercroft’s exploration of the tensions between allowing the right to protest while maintaining public order in the UK, USA and Brazil.
The issue also includes features on decades-long work at Southampton on how the health of both parents before conception influences a child’s future health and life chances; and looks at the largest-ever supermarket trial assessing the health impacts of food product placement.
You can also read about how the expertise of Public Policy Southampton supports these and many other researchers to engage with policy and policymakers.
