The Address the Stress roadshow across all our UK campuses has now come to an end. Thank you to everyone who came to speak to us to discuss stress and how you can limit its impact.
The staff wellbeing team had some fantastic conversations with hundreds of staff members across all areas about how workplace stress impacts them and how the University can support them. Our last stop on the roadshow was valley gardens at the annual staff party hosted at Highfield Campus. Staff enjoyed massages, ping pong and lawn games provided by the staff wellbeing team.
As part of the roadshow, we asked staff to use seed balls to indicate which of the six stressors set by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) caused them stress in their roles. The HSE approach is considered the gold standard for managing stress at work. The two stressors that staff voted as the highest factors in their roles were demand and change. Although this is not a scientific study, it is interesting and provides some insight into the things we do well and the things we could improve on. There are often small changes that can be made that make a huge difference to the wellbeing of teams. This starts with understanding workplace stress better so you are able to have open conversations with your team.
