Colleagues may be aware of information circulating online regarding potential planned demonstrations in the city centre this evening (Wednesday 7 August). As a result, it is likely there are those in our community that are feeling unsafe and worried today. As I said in my message shared on Monday, we are a university which prides itself on diversity and inclusivity, and we will do everything within our power to keep you safe in your place of work and ensure you feel seen and supported.
The Leader of Southampton City Council yesterday issued a statement regarding the potential disruption today and we will continue to work closely with the City Council, our colleagues at Solent University and the Police during this worrying time.
I remind all colleagues of the support resources available to you. Please do speak openly with your line manager or supervisor about any concerns you may have, who can then support you in alterations to your work or travel arrangements today to enable you to prioritise your personal safety and wellbeing.

Colleagues working at our city centre locations should be aware that our buildings there will be card access only this afternoon.
