The University of Southampton is proud to sponsor Southampton Pride on 24-25 August. Join one of the biggest free events in the city’s calendar, full of activities, stalls, live music and performances over the bank holiday weekend.
The new Co-Chairs for the Pulse LGBTQ+ Staff and PGR Network, Jim Weller and Fabien Littel are delighted to invite staff, students, their friends and families to join the network in marching at the Pride Parade on Saturday 24 August, meeting at Queen’s Park from 10:30.
“Pride is still as important now as when it first began as a protest and march for LGBTQIA+ rights. As a queer, non-binary person, I am proud to work for an institution that supports our community and plays such an important role in our local Pride event in Southampton. I hope to see a great turnout for the University of Southampton at Pride this year to celebrate the inclusivity and diversity of the University and the city.” – Jim Weller, Co-Chair of the Pulse LGBTQIA+ Staff and PGR Network.
“Representing, celebrating and advocating for our LGBTQIA+ community continues to be an essential act of solidarity, and it is good to see the University playing an important role through its sponsorship of the event, giving many of us an opportunity to show and voice our support, and all together build greater momentum for inclusion.” – Fabien Littel, Co-Chair of the Pulse LGBTQIA+ Staff and PGR Network.
This year, march participants will be given our community t-shirt, designed by student Lubin Chaumier. To sign up to take part in the march, please share your details through the UoS Pride Parade sign-up form.
Throughout the weekend, you can find our Roadshow stall in Guildhall Square with lots of activities and a chance to pick up a Pride tote bag (pictured) developed by Winchester School of Art and led by Jodie Silsby.
