With Welcome Weekend and Freshers’ starting on Saturday 21 September, here are some further tips and resources to help you get ready. You can read more about enrolling, essential tasks, and other helpful tips in the Prepare for the 2024/25 academic year: Getting started piece on SUSSED.
Academic support
We have plenty of resources to help you manage your transition to University learning, freshen up your skills, or learn new ones depending on where you are in your student journey.
Visit the academic support article on our Knowledge Base to find out more about available support, including writing and research guides, as well as free LinkedIn Learning courses.
Using MyEngagement
MyEngagement is the academic monitoring tool you are expected to use to capture your attendance at online and in-person timetabled sessions once semester one starts. This is to enable the University to work with students who have attendance requirements or may require further support. Please familiarise yourself with this tool, or refresh your memory on how to use it, via the linked Knowledge Base article.
Managing your finances
- If you are expecting a tuition fee loan or a maintenance loan through Student Finance (UK), make sure you check if your funding has been confirmed for the 2024/25 academic year. You can contact The Student Hub if you have any concerns, delays, or unexpected changes in your situation.
- To make sure your money lasts regardless of your type of funding, the best thing you can do is create a spending plan. Visit the financial wellbeing and support page to access the useful budget sheet.
- If you haven’t already, consider opening a student bank account – they have many advantages, including an interest-free overdraft.
