Introduction to doctoral supervision e-learning course 

The updated Introduction to doctoral supervision e-learning course is now available on Blackboard.   This course, taking approximately 1 hour to complete, is aimed at those new to doctoral supervision or new to Southampton, but open to all staff. 

By the end of this e-learning course you should be able to:        

  • Understand and apply the roles and responsibilities associated with being a doctoral supervisor. 
  • Apply the regulations and procedures that support doctoral study. 
  • Recognise that expectations may differ between the postgraduate researcher and the supervisory team and be aware of tools to set and manage expectations. 
  • Find and apply resources and further development opportunities to support you and the PGR to succeed.

Training and events for supervisors can be found on the Training and Events for Supervisors page, including the new in-person Supervisor induction workshop. Faculty Supervisor Forums are available locally and open to all PGR Supervisors, whether new or more experienced.

How to engage with the supervisor development programme – a new resource 

A new graphic has been produced that illustrates how best to engage with the supervisor development programme.  It is available on the SharePoint site CHEP Resources for Doctoral Supervisors – Home (sharepoint.com).
