Join academic and political speakers from Southampton and beyond in a climate-focused panel event to explore the question: Can citizen assemblies help lead Britain’s response to the climate crisis? The event is on Friday 1 November 2024, Room 2017, Building 5, on Highfield Campus. Book on Eventbrite.
The panel, hosted by alumni of our University in association with Hope for the Future, follows an inspiring citizen assembly on climate change held by Southampton City Council, which brought together randomly selected residents with experts to discuss how to cut the city’s transport emissions. Discussions will aim to address these challenges further in a sustainable way.
Panel members will include:
- Satvir Kaur, MP for Southampton Test.
- Dr Amy McDonnell – Campaign Co-Director from Zero Hour.
- Professor Matt Ryan – Associate Director of the Web Science Institute at University of Southampton.
Cllr John Savage, Southampton City Councillor, will also be delivering a short speech on Southampton’s experience of its citizen assembly.
This event is open to staff, students, and members of the public, so click here to visit Eventbrite and book your free ticket now.
