We are pleased to announce that our professional development programmes, Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PGCAP) Modules 1 & 2, Professional Recognition of Educator Practice (PREP), SoTeach 3, and Teaching the Teachers to Teach (T5) have been re-accredited by Advance HE.
Our re-accreditation documentation submitted at the end of March 2024 prompted eight commendations for the University from Advance HE.
Candidates going through each programme will now be assessed against the new Professional Standards Framework (PSF) 2023. The Centre for Higher Education Practice (CHEP) is updating the current resource pages, and these will be made live on Thursday 7 November.
What is PSF 2023?
The PSF is a globally recognised framework to support and accredit professional development and benchmark success in teaching and learning in higher education. There are two routes to choose, the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PGCAP) and the Professional Recognition of Educator Practice (PREP) programme.
The PGCAP is a part-time, work-based, aspirational programme for academic staff at the University. Employees with teaching responsibilities (ERE Education and Balanced pathways) and with less than three years of teaching experience can achieve Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) by successfully completing the first two modules of PGCAP.
PREP is our experience-based portfolio route and offers all staff involved in teaching and supporting learning the opportunity to develop and evidence their educator activities, knowledge and professional values throughout their career. PREP provides a process by which recognition by Advance HE at Associate Fellow, Fellow, Senior Fellow or Principal Fellow can be achieved.
What’s the difference between UKPSF 2011 and PSF 2023?
PSF 2023 builds on the strengths of the UKPSF but has been updated following a review acknowledging the significant changes that have taken place within higher education teaching and learning since 2011. PSF 2023 places more emphasis on the effectiveness and impact of teaching and the context in which it takes place, professional values, support for students and collaboration.
