Writers in Conversation with Rebecca Smith – Monday 18 November

Rebecca Smith, Principal Teaching Fellow in the English department and the author of six novels, joins award-winning writer, journalist and Associate Professor, Carole Burns to discuss Smith’s most recent work and first crime novel, ‘Conversations With An Octopus’ (Legend Press, 2024) at the latest Writers in Conversation at MAST Theatre, Southampton.

‘Conversations With An Octopus’ is a quirky crime novel set in Devon. When the body of a lecherous landlord washes up on Ottersea beach, it’s up to Detectives Jim Paddon and Grace Brown to solve the mystery. Rebecca Smith’s latest novel takes inspiration from Jane Austen’s unfinished seaside novel, Sanditon. It’s a tale of women’s anger, sea creatures, friendship, and ice cream.

‘A brilliantly witty mash-up of modern manners, seaside farce and a little casual murder’ — Philip Hoare

Admission is free, but you can book in advance at the MAST website.
