10th round of Public Engagement Development Fund winners announced

The Public Engagement with Research unit (PERu) is delighted to announce that 10 new projects have been awarded Public Engagement Development Funding for 2024/25.

This is the tenth anniversary of this established funding scheme, with previously funded projects leading to substantial follow-on funding, new inclusive research directions, several Impact Case Studies in the Research Excellence Framework 2021, inclusive knowledge exchange and underpinning many of the projects that have led to our Civic University Agreement and continuing work. Most importantly these projects have developed new, appropriate ways to engage with different groups, share power, centre lived/ing experience and ensure our work is grounded in the needs of society.

The annual Public Engagement Development Fund is awarded to researchers who have considered how Public Engagement methodologies, activities and ideas could be brought to life and delivered as a route to research impact, enhancing outcomes for all involved. Applicants are required to justify innovative aims, demonstrate logical, inclusive, sustainable and ethical approaches, provide a detailed budget and evaluation plan to demonstrate impact.  This year a record-breaking number of applications was received from across the University and local community, and the excellent standard demonstrated value and enhanced commitment linked with embedding Public Engagement into research activities; involving the active participation of external individuals and communities in the co-creation of a project to generate relevant, mutually beneficial evidence and outcomes.

We are looking forward to working with project leads and partners to share learning, best practice and the creation of outcomes that make tangible difference to lives, communities and change society for the better across our four themes: Interdisciplinary Collaboration, Heritage and Culture, Sustainability, and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion. All our projects are listed here and also watch out for updates on our SharePoint site!

The Public Engagement with Research unit wishes to thank our dedicated and knowledgeable panel for their time, enthusiasm and expertise during the decision-making process this year, which was not an easy task to complete. A huge thank you also goes to all applicants for the time and thought taken to apply – we encourage you to continue working on and taking part in Public Engagement Activities and hope to engage with you soon.

Keep up to date with Public Engagement activities and opportunities via our SharePoint site or by joining the Public Engagement Network
