With winter break approaching, below you can find useful information to help you if you are planning on using our facilities, preparing for upcoming assessments, or in need of support during this time.
We are here for you 24/7
The Student Hub remains your first point of contact during the winter break – you can get in touch with the team via email, phone, and online chat 24/7, including on bank holidays.
The Student Hub in Building 37 on Highfield Campus will be closed from Friday 20 December to Thursday 2 January. If you need in-person wellbeing support, our dedicated wellbeing services will still be available for walk-ins over the break, via The Student Hub in Building 37.
The Student Hub in-person sites at Sir James Matthews Building, Avenue Campus, NOCS and Winchester School of Art will be closed from Friday 13 December to Monday 6 January.
Your assessment timetables
The main assessment period for semester one runs from Monday 13 January to Friday 24 January 2025. The semester one generic timetable will be available to download via the University website no later than Monday 9 December. This will show your exam dates, times, and format. Your personal timetable, including locations, will be available via SUSSED from Friday 20 December.
You can find out more about potential room layouts, as well as tips and information via the student exams website.
Library opening times
If you would like to head out to any of the libraries during the break, Hartley Library and the Health Services Library have varying opening times, so make sure you double check the Library website before you visit.
All University libraries will be closed on Wednesday 25 December, Thursday 26 December, and Wednesday 1 January.
The libraries at the National Oceanography Centre and the Winchester School of Art will be closed from Tuesday 24 December and will reopen on Thursday 2 January.
The Library online chat will be closed from Monday 23 December until Thursday 2 January. If you need any support during this time, please send your query to [email protected] and the team will get back to you as soon as they can.
Academic support and resources
The Academic Skills Service usual drop-in schedule won’t be running between Friday 20 December and Monday 6 January, when it will resume with Writing Cafés, Academic Skills Drop-ins, and Maths and Stats drop-ins as usual. If you need support during this time, make sure you explore the Academic Skills website for a variety of resources, including dissertation and assignment planners, as well as A-Z skills guides.
Keep active
If you would like to use the Southampton Sport facilities during the break, the Jubilee Sports and Recreation Centre and Mayflower Gym will be closed on Wednesday 25 and Thursday 26 December, with altered opening times between Thursday 19 December and Wednesday 1 January. View the full opening hours for our sport facilities below.
IT support
IT support services, including ServiceLine and our Tech Hubs, will be unavailable from Tuesday 24 December until Thursday 2 January. To avoid disruption or getting locked out of your account during this time, make sure you check your details and follow the steps detailed on SUSSED.
Events
Make sure you check the My Southampton app regularly for any events you could get involved with during the break – including festive events from SUSU and in halls of residence.
