New Resources and Community to support the development of Networks and Communities of Practice (CoPs)

Communities of Practice (CoPs) are becoming a popular format to support new academic networks at the University of Southampton.

The Centre for Higher Education Practice (CHEP) has cocreated a new SharePoint site using outputs from previous ‘Sustaining and Developing Communities of Practice’ workshops. This new site is designed to support anyone who is engaged in developing communities of practice; particularly those who feel they have beginner or intermediate level experience.

This is accompanied by a new community for anyone involved in developing networks or CoPs.

Supporting Communities of Practice SharePoint site

CHEP coordinates a wide range of networks and Communities of Practice as part of their approach to academic development. They have a role in sharing good practice for building and sustaining engagement with networks and communities.  The new Supporting Communities of Practice SharePoint site resource will introduce you to:

  • Definitions and examples of CoPs and other similar groups.
  • Advice on managing CoPs
  • Practical guidance on the form and structure of CoPs
  • The different roles and responsibilities
  • Tips on building, sustaining and closing CoPs.

This site is open to all staff as well as our UHS colleagues.

Supporting Communities of Practice community

CHEP have also launched a new community for colleagues who are responsible for coordinating or interested in developing networks and Communities of Practice.

‘Supporting Communities of Practice’ was launched at the CHEP Festival 2024 and the first meeting of this new community is taking place on Tuesday 17 December from 09:30 – 11:30.

This meeting will establish a shared sense of purpose, aims, and objectives. They will explore opportunities on how to participate, roles required to sustain and grow the community and signposts to new resources available to support those developing Communities of Practice.

If you are interested in becoming a member of the ‘Supporting Communities of Practice CoP’ please follow this team link.  You can also book your place via Staffbook
