The University is investing in the future of our student record system with a new programme seeking to achieve a seamless experience for staff and students.
The Banner Revitalisation & IT Enhancement (BRITE) Programme has been set up to ensure our system is built on firm foundations as well as to look to the future to enable the University to achieve our strategic goals. The four-year programme will formally start in January 2025.
Why are we investing in this programme now?
Our student record system, and the way we use it, isn’t currently delivering everything the University, staff and students need and expect. Banner has been our student record system for over 20 years and parts of the system are now difficult to maintain and are coming to the end of their service life which poses cyber security and availability risks.
We can deliver a brighter future for staff and students by changing the system and how we use it. This will help us to deliver our University Strategy — particularly in the areas of Education and Student Experience, Digital, International and Organisational Excellence.
Students are at the heart of our University and an effective student record system is essential to offer a seamless experience, and enable the University to offer more flexible, digital offering as well as supporting growth and freeing up resource for other priorities.
We want our colleagues to feel better supported by the system to achieve their goals, helping to improve processes, and free up time for other things.
Taking the time to do it right
Karen Omisore is Executive Director of Student Administration and Academic Affairs and sponsor of the BRITE Programme. Describing our approach so far, Karen said:
“I’m incredibly excited to share that we’ve been working hard to ensure our Programme is taking the time to properly prepare and elevate our capabilities as an institution. We’re gearing up for some important changes to our student record system data and processes, and we’re more ready than ever to make them happen. We’re learning from the experiences of past projects and approaching things in fresh, innovative ways.
We’ve also been building a fantastic team, bringing together the expertise of our Student Systems and iSolutions teams, while also adding new talent to the mix. These new team members are bringing new perspectives and valuable skills that are going to make a real difference for the University.
Looking ahead, next year marks the start of a two-year journey focused on strengthening the very foundations of our student record system. I’m thrilled about what we can achieve together with the support of everyone across the organisation and cannot wait to see the impact!”
What do I need to do? How do I stay informed?

Take a look at our SharePoint site to find out more or to receive regular updates, sign up to the BRITE Bites newsletter.
As the Programme develops, there will be opportunities for colleagues around the University to provide input and we will need your support to make sure we deliver solutions that work.
