Park Mark Accreditation

The University is pleased to report that three of our main car park locations surrounding our Highfield Campus have received the ‘Safer Parking Award’ as part of the Park Mark Safer Parking Scheme.

The Safer Parking Scheme is a national standard for UK car parks and the University undertook the accreditation process to receive and implement expert knowledge on ensuring the safety of our community and vehicles in our car parks.

Each car park undergoes a rigorous assessment by specially trained Police assessors who provide recommendations to improve the car parks in the process. A number of these changes have already been implemented and they will continue to inform our plans for future improvements.

The accreditation has been awarded to Boldrewood, Hampton and South Broadlands car parks. The assessor reviewed every aspect of the car park operation, including the standard and level of CCTV, lighting, security, management processes (such as security patrols) and the general condition of the car park.

The University Chief Security Officer, Nick Povey, said ‘I am incredibly proud that three of our busiest car parks have achieved this standard following a lot of hard work from Security, Parking, Landscaping and other colleagues across Estates and Facilities.’

Accredited car parks are reassessed every 12 months to ensure the standards are maintained, and that any recommendations made during the initial assessment have been reviewed and, where possible, implemented.
