Our Network Refresh moves into delivery phase

Our Network Refresh project will provide a secure, efficient, high-performing network with world-leading Wi-Fi, and is moving into the delivery phase in 2025.

We have completed designs for the transformed network which will enable the University to capitalise on the many benefits it will bring, such as higher bandwidth, quicker downloads, smoother streaming, improved security and much more.

Working collaboratively with colleagues across the organisation, we have agreed the first phase of buildings to be upgraded, beginning in summer 2025. We will be in touch again with Estates, operational and management colleagues to agree specific dates that work for all.

These prioritised buildings were agreed through an extensive consultation across the University. Through this process, student and staff experience and operational considerations were paramount. For example, we have taken academic activities into account, looking to upgrade some professional services buildings at times when academic buildings are unavailable.

What happens next?

For the upgrade to proceed successfully, the project team will be gathering further information in the coming weeks from Estates and Management teams, as well as other professional services and academic colleagues. This will involve collecting information on connected devices and services, including the physical ports they rely on, as well as general access and health and safety considerations within each building.

Please do engage with this information gathering process if you are contacted, to make sure we capture everything we need to minimise disruption and make the upgrades a success. Your support is greatly appreciated.

Once completed, the transformed network will provide a host of benefits for staff and students. You can find out more on the Network Refresh Sharepoint site which also contains a number of FAQs.
