Professor Pauline Leonard has stepped down from her role as Deputy Director of the Web Science Institute (WSI). A valued member of the WSI, Pauline has been in post since 2019 and has played a vital part in developing the institute from its early stages to the successful entity it is today.

Her expertise and contributions in socio-technical research have helped shape a collaborative and interdisciplinary culture at the Web Science Institute, whilst widening the scope and volume of new research projects.
Pauline will remain on the WSI board of directors, where she will continue to demonstrate her impact as an Associate Director.
A new deputy director is currently being recruited to work with Director Dame Professor Wendy Hall and Deputy Director Professor Les Carr, in providing strategic leadership to the Institute and developing a programme of activities to support education, attract research funding, and nurture enterprise activities.
Working alongside Les, the new Deputy Director will be jointly responsible for developing and delivering a vision for the WSI and its recently launched initiative, AI @ Southampton.
Pauline said, “It has been a real pleasure and privilege to be a deputy director for WSI for the past five years, the Institute is has grown in strength and numbers in that time and is entering yet another exciting phase in 2025 with the creation of AI @ Southampton.
