Semester two—staying on top of your studies

As semester two gets underway, it’s a good idea to be aware of the resources that can supplement your studies. From ensuring your timetable is correct, and finding the best place to study, to using Generative AI appropriately. Keep reading for advice on effective studying this semester.

Timetable

Your timetable is available to view now via SUSSED, the My Southampton app and the timetable page. We recommend familiarising yourself with it before the start of the semester. If you have any timetabling concerns, view the Timetabling Frequently Asked Questions or contact Curriculum and Timetabling team at [email protected].

Study Spaces

As well as our fantastic libraries, our alternative study spaces are a great place to catch up on reading. The Sir James Matthews (SJM) building, which is just a few minutes away from central bus stops and Southampton Central train station, has a 200-capacity study space and individual study pods that can be booked via the library website.

Check out Campus Maps for more study spots, like the NOCS Library.

Generative AI

At the University of Southampton, we aim to develop our teaching, learning and assessment to ensure that an education prepares you to be critically digitally literate, a responsible, ethical, skilled user of Generative AI (GenAI), and ready for work and life in an AI-enabled world.

For guidance on how to use GenAI appropriately, watch the two-minute video below or visit the University website.

Academic Skills

Throughout the semester, the Academic Skills Service run Writing Cafes, Academic Skills Drop-Ins, and other events which are informal, safe spaces allowing you to make progress on your work with support available from the team. Check the website for resources and dates.

Further support

If you need any support, you can contact The Student Hub via online chat, email, or by calling 02380 599 599 – we are here for you 24/7, 365 days a year. You can also visit us in person across our campuses – visit The Student Hub website for opening times.
