Parking permits – add your payment card details by 17 February.

Introduction

We have previously announced the reinstatement of parking charges, which have been paused since the pandemic. Charges will be reinstated on 17 February 2025.

To reflect changes in many people’s working patterns post-pandemic we are switching to daily charging, replacing the previous inflexible, flat-rate monthly charges. To facilitate this flexible daily charging system, we will be using card payments. A reminder of the charges is below.

Adding your payment details and parking charges

Please add your payment details to the APCOA parking portal before Monday 17 February 2025.

Once you have added your payment details, charges will be processed automatically via the APCOA system for the days that you use our car parks between 08:00 – 17:00 Monday to Friday. Payments will be debited from your account, usually within 24 hours.

Parking charges will continue to be set in bands aligned with University grades and we have taken this opportunity to add an extra band, meaning charges are more evenly distributed across our grading structure, and a zero rate applies for colleagues at Levels 1a and 1b*. We have also retained reduced charges for low emissions vehicles (those with emissions of up to 100g CO2).

Clarification on permit expiry, published 4 February 2025

Using more than one vehicle

From 17 February, colleagues who are paying via daily charging will not need to specify which vehicle they are using, as long as it is registered to their profile.

For those who do not pay for parking

Colleagues who do not need to pay for parking (1a and 1b colleagues, blue badge holders and ‘essential car users’) will not need to add payment details but will need to access the system and renew their permit before 17 February. They will also need to continue identifying the car they are using to attend campus that day after 17 February in order to avoid PCNs.

Paper and disc permits

Paper and disc permits are no longer in use as all permits are now digital, so please organise your parking via the parking portal.

*Level 1a and 1b colleagues.

Colleagues at Levels 1a and 1b will need to confirm their grade on the APCOA system by 17 February to ensure they do not get a Parking Charge Notice (PCN). This is done by logging in, clicking on ‘Parking Permit Management’ and then selecting the ‘Staff Tier 0-12’ option, instead of adding payment information.

Shift workers

Staff who require parking outside the enforcement hours (08:00-17:00) do not need a permit and will not be charged. Staff whose shifts run into the charging period should contact the Parking Team via [email protected] to get support with the application process.

Pro-rata payments

We have explored pro-rata options but this is not available, however, flexibility is provided by the daily charging approach.

Visitor Parking

If you have visitors that require parking spaces, please email [email protected] with the visitor’s name, vehicle registration, and expected date/time of their visit at least two days ahead of their arrival. A contact number would also be preferable, but not required.

Live availability

Electronic ‘Variable Messaging Signs’ are now sited outside car park entrances to indicate live availability. This information can also be found on the website https://uos.apcoa.com/occupancy.
