Guidance on Intention to Submit for new UKRI funding; Proof of Concept

UKRI has announced a new funding opportunity; Pre-announcement: Proof of Concept – UKRI. This fund is aimed at translating innovations into a new or improved technology, product, process, and/or service. For more information, please review the call guidelines and watch this webinar from the UKRI Commercialisation Team, ARMA and Knowledge Exchange UK.

In order to apply for the Proof of Concept (PoC) fund, all applicants must submit an Intention to Submit Form via the UKRI website before the 3 March 2025 at 16:00. This Intention to Submit form is a mandatory requirement from UKRI and will be used to gauge the potential number and breadth of applications. We would like to strongly encourage colleagues with a project falling within the scope of the scheme to complete an Intention to Submit.

At this stage, there is no requirement to create a submission through Worktribe or seek any internal approval. When submitting the Intention to Submit form, please include the email address for the Technology Transfer Office ([email protected]) in the appropriate field (question 8 on the Intention to Submit Form).

We request that all applicants notify the Technology Transfer Office of their intention to submit via this short Internal Form which will allow the Technology Transfer team to communicate directly to interested parties regarding this call.

After the Intention to Submit deadline, UKRI will inform the University of the maximum number of applications that can be submitted. This has been proposed by UKRI to ensure an overall funding rate of 20% in line with other UKRI funding schemes.

Further updates to University advice on this call will be published in due course and sent directly to those who have completed the Internal Form.

For all queries, please contact [email protected].

Update 17 February 2025: Further information on the new UKRI Proof of Concept Fund has been published by Research and Innovation Services on a new landing page. This landing page will be updated with more information as it becomes available.
