The University’s Career Pathways framework has been in place for over 20 years, and its last major update was in 2015. The Career Pathways have now been comprehensively reviewed and refreshed to meet current needs.
The Career Pathways are designed to help staff map out their career trajectories at the University, enabling our people to plan their personal and professional development and achieve their full potential. The content of the Career Pathways is used across a wide range of established processes, including job description drafting and evaluation, recruitment, probation, appraisal, career development discussions and promotion.
Key changes to the Career Pathways include:
- Refreshed contribution descriptors across all job families. These aim to be more concise and more consistent in style and better reflect people’s roles.
- The introduction of a series of defined terms to reduce repetition and improve consistency in the understanding of common terminology.
- A new job description template and example job descriptions.
- The Enterprise pathway becomes the Knowledge Exchange and Enterprise pathway.
- From August 2025, Professor becoming the standard job title across all ERE pathways at Level 7, replacing Professorial Fellow.
- The Technical and Experimental (TAE) job family extending to Level 6.
- A renewed focus on accessibility and ease of use. This includes a comprehensively updated SharePoint site, as well as the re-introduction of a digital Career Pathways ‘brochure’ for those who prefer to view the content in document format.
Staff are encouraged to read and familiarise themselves with the refreshed Career Pathways content available here.
