The workplace is changing rapidly. Emerging digital technologies, environmental pressures, the ageing workforce, restructuring in the public sector and shifting patterns of economic migration are all impacting on the way we work.
The Work Futures Research Centre (WFRC), a unique centre in the UK, has brought together leading academics from across Social Sciences, Education, Engineering, Health Sciences, Geography and Management to address these challenges. The WFRC provides research expertise that enables organisations across the public, private and third sectors to develop their understandings of and responses to the changing nature of work and the workforce. We have a portfolio of funded research programmes on work and organisation, employment, training and skills.
The directors of the WFRC, Professor Alison Fuller, Professor Susan Halford, Professor Pauline Leonard, Professor Catherine Pope, are keen to share their expertise, stimulate debate and open up learning in the world of work through a monthly Work Thought Blog series.
We are delighted to bring to you the first blog of the series ‘Speaking truth to power – the WFRC responds to parliamentary consultation on health workforce’ by Professor Catherine Pope.
