For many students, University can be an unexpected challenge both physically and mentally. Both the University’s Enabling Service and the Students’ Union provide a wide variety of services to support students’ mental health.
There are numerous workshops and drop-in sessions, which are available to all students:
Drop-in Services
Students who are in distress because of personal issues, health matters, financial worries, housing issues, etc. can utilise either the University’s Enabling Services Drop-in or the ‘No Limits’ Drop-in services. You can find more details about their drop-in times on the Unidocs website.
Wednesday Workshops
Enabling Services run a series of Wellbeing Workshops on Wednesday afternoons throughout the academic year.
Assessment Centre
The Wessex Needs Assessment Centre (WNAC) provides specialist assessments for students with disabilities and specific learning difficulties, many of whom are eligible for Disabled Students Allowances (DSA).
Mindfulness
Offering both Mindful Monday drop ins and an upcoming 4-week Mindfulness course, the Enabling Services team helps students to practice the art of being in the present moment. For more information, please email Enabling.
Crisis Support
The First support team can be contacted during office hours to arrange support for students who may be facing difficulties in their life or dealing with a crisis.
For more information on any of these services, please visit the Enabling Services website.
Nightline, Peer Support, Student Minds and the Advice Centre are amongst the services which have also been put in place by the Students’ Union, to support any students suffering from mental health or personal issues.
There are also various student groups in place whom may be helpful for students, but do not offer direct mental health support, e.g. LGBT.
For more information, visit the Students’ Union groups page.
