Sean-Michael Morais, a first-year MEng Aeronautics and Astronautics student at our Malaysia Campus, will represent Malaysia at the Asia-Pacific regional finals of the IET’s Present Around The World competition this August in Sydney, Australia.
The competition, organised by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), is an opportunity for young professionals and students within engineering to develop and showcase their presentation skills.
On winning the national finals in Malaysia at the beginning of May, Sean said:
“I was surprised I reached this far, let alone go on to win the competition. I don’t think I would have achieved this without the help of my coach, friends and family.”
Sean’s winning presentation focused on the human colonisation of Mars. Coached by Ivan Ling, current PhD student at Southampton and a former IET PATW champion, Sean convinced the audience and judges that settling on Mars could help humanity escape and mitigate the problems our species is facing here on earth.
As a young boy, Sean enjoyed using telescopes and looking at the stars. He loves science fiction books and admires the work of SpaceX, a manufacturer of spacecraft and rockets. When he enrolled at Southampton for the MEng Aeronautics and Astronautics programme, it further piqued his interest in space exploration.
