This summer, we posted about the University’s addition to Marwell Wildlife’s ‘Zany Zebra’ sculpture trail with our very own ‘Zebraversity’, who has been taking biodiversity research into Southampton city centre with the help of the BioBlitz team.
With today marking the first day of autumn, the city’s Zany Zebras will soon be making their way to auction, and the BioBlitz team have launched a crowdfunding campaign in a bid to buy Zebraversity and release her into Valley Gardens, Highfield Campus.
Although the exact amount needed to buy our zebra is uncertain, having based their estimate on the prices fetched by the rhino sculptures from a previous Southampton sculpture trail, the BioBlitz team are looking to raise £3,000 by 18 October 2016. Any funding above the final auction value will be spent on activities to engage the general public with nature.
All donations are welcome and will be rewarded on a tier-based system, as below:
- Pledge £1 or more – you will receive a named shout-out on Facebook and Twitter.
- Pledge £10 or more – you will receive a postcard of Zebraversity in her new home, in time for Christmas!
- Pledge £15 or more – your name will be included on Zebraversity’s plinth.
- Pledge £20 or more – you can name one of the animals on the sculpture. Please note this is first come, first served, and the hedgehog has already been named in a previous competition (he’s called Rustle).
- Pledge £25 or more – you will receive an invitation to Zebraversity’s release into Valley Gardens.
Details on how to donate, and what Zebraversity has been up to over the summer can be found here.
BioBlitz will be providing weekly updates on the progress of the campaign on their Facebook page and Twitter.
