Successful MSc graduates recognised for their achievements

At a ceremony hosted by the University in May, graduates from the five Masters programmes taught by the University’s Centre for Operational Research, Management Science and Information Systems (CORMSIS) were awarded prizes for their summer projects.

Students on these programmes can do a three month dissertation project with an external organisation. The 11 prize-winning graduates took part in projects with Deloitte, Tesco, Copperleaf, Carnival UK, NHS Thames Valley & Wessex, RNLI, Inreach Ventures, Rolls Royce, Arup, Movement Strategies and TUI.

The students impressed senior managers with the quality of their analysis and some have since gone on to secure jobs with their sponsoring companies.

Head of Mathematical Sciences, Professor Jon Forster says:

The increasing importance of big data in the workplace brings many rewarding career opportunities for graduates with analytical, statistical and mathematical skills.

I am very proud of our graduates for achieving so much in short summer projects and am not surprised many have already found jobs or are engaged in higher study.

Southampton Business School Director of Enterprise, Dr Stefan Cantore says:

A knowledge of business analytics can be a passport to successful careers across many sectors. Our graduates have tackled a wide range of complex business challenges during their short summer projects and we are proud of their achievements.
