The Parents’ & Carers’ Network have produced a guide to support positive interactions when collaborating with colleagues with multiple commitments such as working from home and parenting and caring responsibilities.
Lisa Hanley, Chair of P&C Network and Research Excellence Framework (REF) Impact Officer, Faculty of Environmental and Life Sciences, explains:
“The University of Southampton Parents’ and Carers’ Network Steering Group have produced these guidelines in response to concerns from our community that while many colleagues are settling into new ways of working, we are now experiencing a new set of challenges.
Schools, nurseries and colleges are now open, which is great news for most, but we are still left with a gap in care, as many before/after school clubs are not yet open, meaning those who relied on them for 9-5 jobs, simply cannot be ‘at their desk’ during some of that time.
Those with other caring responsibilities for elderly or shielding relatives are still committed to some level of day-time care. This document highlights the challenges experienced and how they can be mitigated to ensure good work/life balance and continued prioritised contributions to the University.”
“We are grateful for the continued support and understanding of our colleagues and line managers and our ability to work flexibly to meet our work objectives during these unusual times.”
