Design your Future!

The Careers and Employability Service is thrilled to announce our first ever Design Your Future Festival! The festival includes three weeks of activities and engagement opportunities to support you in taking significant steps towards your future career today.  Now is a great time to start looking at opportunities, find a placement, internship or graduate career, whilst networking with your potential future employer. A broad range of employers attend our fairs, from international organisations to small and medium businesses, so it really is your chance to design your future!

The Festival will run from Monday 18 October to Sunday 7 November and is open to all students from all year groups.

Visit the Design your Future website for more details on the full schedule, locations and booking for events, many of which are happening in the 38P marquee on the Highfield Campus, including a Careers to Tackle Climate Change interactive session, a Social Entrepreneurship Experience challenge and an opportunity to become part of the student co-design panel!

The Festival will also provide access to:

Enterprise opportunities – apply to take part in the 2021 Student Startup Challenge Weekend (taking place at Eagle Labs in Southampton) to bring your business idea to life, or submit your innovative ideas to the 100 big ideas challenge to be one of 100 students to win £100! You can also join our Enterprise team for the Student Founder Showcase in the Cube and hear how students have progressed with their startups as a result of the Foundership Grant Scheme

LinkedIn Labs – LinkedIn Labs are designed to provide you with support in developing the effectiveness of your LinkedIn profile. We have a professional photographer on site in the marquee to capture your perfect LinkedIn photo too!

Design Your Future Careers workshops, taking place in the Student Hub, Highfield Campus – join our team for workshops to support you in developing best practice for video and phone interviews, securing work experience, cracking online assessments, planning your career, creating cover letters and ensuring you stand out to employers in the application process. If you are a final year student, join a session tailored to your needs, highlighting what you can do before you graduate to best prepare you for your next stages

PG Study – if you would like to know more about your options and whether PG study is for you, come along to an informal tea and cake session in the marquee for a chat and to find out more. A Design Your Future Careers Workshop will also explore this topic with you.

Disability and Employability Event – Do you want to find out more about entering the workplace with a disability, specific learning difficulty or long-term health condition? Are you interested in hearing from those who have done it before you? Want to know what support you could receive from employers? This event will feature speakers from a range of organisations speak about their experiences of either working with a disability or of supporting others in the workplace.

Daily Tea and Cake – Join us daily between 11:00 and 13:00 (excluding Friday 5 November and Tuesday 26 October) for tea, cake and an informal chat with the team in the Marquee Building, opposite Arlott (B38p).
