Please be aware of a financial scam targeting international students

Hampshire Police have alerted us of a highly sophisticated financial scam currently targeting international students at the University of Southampton and their families.

If you think you are being targeted, do not click any links that are being sent to you, and do not give any personal information or bank details. Please report the incident to Action Fraud online, or call 0300 123 2040. You can also forward any suspicious emails to [email protected]  

The following support is available to you if you are a victim of such scams:  

  • The Student Hub offers wellbeing support 24/7, via the online chat and via telephone at (+44) 02380 599 599. 
  • Victim Care Support is a Hampshire-based organisation that can provide emotional support, practical advice, assistance with other support services and contact information for other organisations. 
  • Victim Support is a national charity covering England and Wales, which can give advice and help to victims of crime. Their website has information, support numbers and a live chat service.
