Student Halo Hub – Be part of change

Trigger warning: The article below refers to sensitive topics including sexual violence, gender-based violence and hidden harms.

Join our Student Halo Hub activist group at the University to contribute towards building an inclusive and safe environment against sexual violence. You will have the chance to empower the voices of survivors and embed zero-tolerance to gender-based violence on campus and in the local community now and in the future.

Through this initiative, training programmes will be available to help you begin difficult conversations around sexual violence and hidden harms, and to educate you on how to work with those who have experienced abuse. The training will support the group in raising awareness through events, social media and community engagement. A previous volunteer spoke about being part of the group:

“Becoming a member of a Halo Hub introduces you to a realm of voices that often go unheard within an unjust society. It enables you to curate a social consciousness whereby you’re able to support and protect victims whilst advocating for their freedom by raising awareness of awareness of hidden harms.”

Our community
Here is a reminder of other ways we can continue to work together to build a safe and inclusive community.

Consent training
It is integral that everyone in our community has the opportunity to gain a healthy and positive understanding of consent. We want to empower everyone to understand boundaries respectfully. Access the ‘Southampton: Consent for students (2022-23)’ on Blackboard via SUSSED if you have not done so already.

Report and Support
The Student Halo Hub initiative aligns with our University commitment to improving transparency and accountability, and stand against all acts of harassment, discrimination and hate.

Please remember you can report unacceptable behaviour anonymously or with details in order to access support by using the Report and Support Tool. While choosing to report anonymously means we might not be able to help you directly, we can help others by providing better support and informing prevention work across the University.

Student support
The Student Hub is available for wellbeing support 24/7 via online chat, email or by calling 02380 599 599.

You can also visit the Student Safety Site on SharePoint to find out more about further support available for you or someone else.
