• justify the selection of a chosen problem from the final project;
• critically evaluate the chosen techniques and methodologies, highlighting reliability, validity and limitations, and identify opportunities for further research;

• integrate theoretical concepts developed throughout your undergraduate learning programme and managerial practice.

Knowledge and Understanding

Having successfully completed this module, you will be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:

• understand the issues and difficulties of dealing with real datasets;
• understand the key concepts of problem structuring and formulation;
• explain various research strategies that must be taken in dealing with the problem.

Essentially, the final project is a test of your ability to create, on your own initiative, a text which demonstrates a thorough understanding of how Analytics techniques can be used to help solve a particular organisational problem. You will be assigned a supervisor to advise you on how to approach the final project work, but it is your responsibility to manage and undertake the necessary work. There is no set pattern of study; you proceed at your own pace. However, the following elements will feature:

• Identifying and agreeing a suitable topic for study with the supervisor
• Formulating the research questions, aims and objectives;
• Identifying and collect extra information if needed
• Applying various business analytics techniques and methodologies to formulate a solution
• Linking research outcomes to current theory and practice;
• Effective communication documents.

Teaching methods include:

• Private study
• Guided study and research activity as advised by personal supervisor
• Practical experience
• Personal reflection

However, other teaching and activities may be undertaken by some students depending on their particular project.

• Feedback: Students will receive written feedback on a sample of report chapters. Feedback will also be provided during supervisory meetings.
