Civil engineering

Civil engineering student Virtue, a young Black woman, works on a design at a desk in our campus building, immersed in her work
Use creativity and technical expertise to come up with innovative solutions to society's pressing challenges. Design and build structures and systems to meet our energy, transport, water and other essential needs.

Civil engineers develop new design methods, materials and construction techniques to help fix problems the world faces. On our civil engineering courses, learn while doing practical project work using our design studios and materials, geotechnics and large structures testing labs. Undergraduate students may be eligible for an annual bursary of £1,650 from The Southampton University Corporate Civil Engineering Scheme (SUCCESS). Our graduates make a difference in roles at organisations such as Atkins, Balfour Beatty and Transport for London.
