Scholarships for undergraduate study will cover each year of undergraduate study.

Scholarships for postgraduate study will cover the first year of postgraduate study.

There are 25 scholarships available in total, (10 100% fee awards and 15 £10,000 fee awards).

Eligibility

The Sustainable Development Goals adopted in 2015 by the United Nations will determine the course of the global social, ecological and economic agenda until 2030. If we are to successfully achieve them, we need to be able to work across traditional disciplines and we therefore encourage scholarship applications from all eligible programmes of study.

You must:

  • apply for a University of Southampton course before you apply for the scholarship
  • have a course offer before the scholarship closing date
  • pay the overseas tuition fee

You must not be in receipt of any external scholarship, that is more than or equal to your tuition fees.

The Southampton Presidential International Scholarship is not available to students studying:

  • on PGCert, PGDip, Foundation or PGR courses
  • on Distance Learning courses
  • with a partner institution
  • at our campus in Malaysia
  • on continuing professional development (CPD) courses
  • undergraduate courses in the Faculty of Medicine
  • only pre-sessional English – pre-sessional English students with an offer to study at undergraduate or postgraduate level can still apply

Deadline to apply

We cannot accept late applications. If your application is successful, you will receive confirmation in an email with an attached letter.

Scholarships for 2025 will open for applicants in October 2024 and close at 5pm (UK time) on 22 April 2025.

How we award scholarships

This is a competitive process and not all applications will be successful.

There are 5 stages to the shortlisting process.

  1. We check that you meet the eligibility criteria.
  2. We score and rank the answers you give on your application form.
  3. We shortlist applicants across all departments to recognise academic excellence in all areas.
  4. We score your academic qualifications stated on your UCAS or PGT application form.
  5. A scholarship panel, chaired by the Vice President International, will assess your total score.

We may also shortlist applicants from Least Developed Countries, Low Income or Lower Middle Income countries.

The 10 applicants with the highest score will get 100% tuition fee waivers.

The next 15 applicants with the highest score will get £10,000 off their tuition fees.

The decision of the scholarship panel is final. We do not offer feedback on our process.

How to apply

To apply for the scholarship you must complete and submit the online application form.

As part of your application, you will need to answer questions on how your studies at Southampton can make a contribution to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. You should explain how you might act as an ambassador for the University if you receive the scholarship.
