About the project
In this project, you'll investigate how hybrid stainless steel/carbon steel joints can improve structural performance and resilience under extreme loading conditions.
Climate change has led to extreme environmental conditions and challenges. Therefore, we must design structures and infrastructure that are efficient, resilient, sustainable, and capable of meeting the demands of modern society and future risks.
You will conduct experimental and numerical modelling research using the state-of-the-art structural and material testing facilities in our new UKCRIC National Infrastructure Laboratory. Your research will lead to real structural design guidance rules that could potentially be adopted into standards and practice.
Based at our Boldrewood Innovation Campus, you’ll be part of a vibrant research group which focuses on a range of structural engineering challenges. You’ll collaborate with industry professionals, and receive mentoring and training through our Sustainable Infrastructure for Cities Centre of Doctoral Training.
