This is a self-study module that aims to develop the skills required for researching, writing and presenting a report on some aspect of Operational Research/Data and Decision Analytics.

Having successfully completed this module you will be able to:
- Understand how to structure a report on a technical topic
- Search for information about a particular topic in the academic literature
- Give a presentation on a technical topic
Syllabus
Students undertake a literature study on a topic in OR of their own choice, firstly as a group on a general level and secondly undertaking a more detailed individual study. They are required to produce an individual written report and to participate in a short group oral presentation of their work. A lecture is given on the following topics:
- How to write an OR/DDA report
- Library skills

This is a self-study module; therefore, the majority of work will be carried out by students independently. In addition, students will be given 4 hours of briefings/lectures.

Assessment
Assessment strategy
Summative assessment
Group presentation on a topic of the students' choosing on a technique or application area of OR/DDA.
Written report - individual report on a topic of the student’s choosing on a technique or application area of OR/DDA.
Referral/repeat assessment
If the Oral presentation was previously done, the mark is retained, at 20%, with a written report 80%. If the presentation was not previously done, a written report only is assessed at 100%.
