Dr Panagiotis Giannarakis

Panos is a Fellow of The Higher Education Academy (2019 - Present).

Panos is the Program Lead of B.Sc. Economics & Accounting, B.Sc. Economics & Business and B.Sc. Economics & Finance.

Dr Panagiotis Giannarakis holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Southampton. Since January 2020 he is a Senior Teaching Fellow in the Department of Economics within the School of Economic, Social and Political Sciences (ESPS) at the University of Southampton and from 2015 to 2019 he was a Teaching Fellow in the Department of Economics at the University of Southampton. During his Ph.D. program, he was a Teaching Assistant in various modules in Economics. Prior to that, he completed a Master Degree in Economics and Econometrics at the University of Southampton and a Bachelor Degree in Economics at the University of Crete.

He is an applied economist and his research interests lie in the field of economics of education, empirical labour economics and applied macroeconomics and microeconomics. He is conducting research on economics of education, job flows, skill mismatches, earnings, migration and counterfactual impact evaluations on productivity and on search and matching theory. 

Since 2019, he is a Fellow of The Higher Education Academy. He is the Coordinator of all PGT Programs in Economics and the Programme Lead of M.Sc. Economics, M.Sc. Finance & Economics and M.Sc. Finance & Econometrics. the Coordinator of all PGT Programs in Economics and the Programme Lead of M.Sc. Economics, M.Sc. Finance & Economics and M.Sc. Finance & Econometrics (2022-Present). He was the Programme Lead of B.Sc. Accounting & Economics, B.Sc. Economics & Business Management and B.Sc. Economics & Finance (2020-2022). He is also the Coordinator of the undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations and of other various modules in Economics. 

He has won a “Vice-Chancellor’s Teaching Award-Team Award” and has been nominated and shortlisted three times for the “Blackboard & VLE Award”. He has also been nominated twice for the SUSU Academic Awards in various categories and has been Highly Commented for Best PG or UG demonstrator/teaching assistant.

Furthermore, he is leading the ESPS Athena SWAN UG Students Working Group.
