Dr Hedvig Schmidt is an Associate Professor in EU Law within Southampton Law School at the University of Southampton. Hedvig is currently the Exams Officer for the Law School, and is a member of the Law and Technology Research Centre.

Current research
Hedvig’s main fields of interest are competition law and policy (with expert knowledge of EU competition law and US antitrust), intellectual property law and European Union law. She is currently working on two projects:
1) assessing the competition rules' protection of innovation in digital economy markets with a specific focus on mergers; and
2) Whether the competition law has a place in the regulation of online harm content - a sub-project under the main project of Contested Online Harms run by the Centre for Law and Technology.

Biography
Having attained her BSc Business Administration and Commercial Law at Copenhagen Business School in 2000, Hedvig was awarded her LLM in European Union Law in 2001 and her PhD in 2008 from the University of Essex.
Hedvig was also a Junior Research Fellow at the British Institute of International and Comparative Law in London in 2004-2005, and was also a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Essex between 2002 and 2005.
She joined the Southampton Law School in September 2005 as a Lecturer and was promoted in 2012 to Associate Professor.
She currently works part-time and is a mother of three young children.
