Edit your staff profile

Your staff profile is made up of information taken from systems including Pure and Subscribe. This page explains how to update each section of your profile.

How to update your personal details

Profile photo
Upload your profile photo in Subscribe (opens in a new tab). Your profile photo in Pure is not linked to your public staff profile. Choose a clear, recent headshot where you are easily recognisable. Your image should be at least 340 by 395 pixels.

Name
To change your name or prefix title contact Ask HR (opens in new tab) If you want to update an academic title you'll need to provide evidence e.g. a PhD certificate. The way your name is displayed is automatic and cannot be changed. You can also update your post-nominal letters in Subscribe (opens in a new tab).

Job title
Raise a request through ServiceNow (opens in a new tab) to change your job title (40 characters maximum) unless you're on the ERE career pathway. If you're on the ERE path you can not change your main job title, but you can request other minor updates through Ask HR (opens in new tab). If you have more than one post only your main job title will display here, but you can add further posts or roles in other sections of your profile.

Research interests (for researchers only)
Add up to 5 research interests. The first 3 will appear in your staff profile next to your name. The full list will appear on your research page. Keep these brief and focus on the keywords people may use when searching for your work. Use a different line for each one.

In Pure (opens in a new tab), select ‘Edit profile’. Under the heading 'Curriculum and research description', select 'Add profile information'. In the dropdown menu, select 'Research interests: use separate lines'.

Contact details
Add or update your email address, telephone number and postal address in Subscribe (opens in a new tab). Use your University email address for your primary email.

You can link to your Google Scholar, LinkedIn and Twitter accounts through Pure (opens in a new tab). Select ‘Edit profile’. In the 'Links' section, use the 'Add link' button.

ORCID ID
Create or connect your ORCID ID in Pure (opens in a new tab). Select ‘Edit profile’ and then 'Create or Connect your ORCID ID'.

Accepting PhD applicants (for researchers only)
Choose to show whether you’re currently accepting PhD applicants or not in Pure (opens in a new tab). Select ‘Edit profile’. In the 'Portal details' section, select 'Yes' or 'No' to indicate your choice.

About

Dr Mary Morrison is Director of the Education Development Office.

Within Southampton Business School, Mary and the team work to support and develop teaching staff and students. The support for students is developing and facilitating the delivery of language and study skills. A key part of the team’s approach is to work with students as partners, gathering feedback, recommending change and running peer support schemes at both UG and PGT level. These schemes are reviewed and improved year on year. This collaborative approach extends to all staff and students, and Mary believes strongly in the need for a feeling of community to underpin a productive working and study environment.

As Director of the EDO, Mary is a member of the School Executive.

She was also:

a Member of the University Senate 2016-2020;

President of Southampton University Branch of the University and College Union 2019-20.

How to update your 'about' section

You can update this in Pure (opens in a new tab). Select ‘Edit profile’. Under the heading and then ‘Curriculum and research description’, select ‘Add profile information’. In the dropdown menu, select - ‘About’.

Write about yourself in the third person. Aim for 100 to 150 words covering the main points about who you are and what you currently do. Clear, simple language is best. You can include specialist or technical terms.

You’ll be able to add details about your research, publications, career and academic history to other sections of your staff profile.

This section will only display on your public profile if you’ve added content.

Research groups
Any research groups you belong to will automatically appear on your profile. Speak to your line manager if these are incorrect. Please do not raise a ticket in Ask HR.

Research interests
Add up to 5 research interests. The first 3 will appear in your staff profile next to your name. The full list will appear on your research page. Keep these brief and focus on the keywords people may use when searching for your work. Use a different line for each one.

Current research
Update this in Pure (opens in a new tab). Select ‘Edit profile’ and then ‘Curriculum and research description - Current research’.

Describe your current research in 100 to 200 words. Write in the third person. Include broad key terms to help people discover your work, for example, “sustainability” or “fashion textiles”.

Research projects
Research Council funded projects will automatically appear here. The active project name is taken from the finance system.

Biography

Mary Morrison joined Southampton Business School in 2011 as a Learning and Teaching Coordinator. She became the Director of the Education Development Office in 2015, which works to support both staff and students and enhance education practice in the School.

Mary gained her first degree from Durham University and went on to study for a PGCE at the Institute of Education in London.

She taught in central London for a number of years before working for the environmental group Greenpeace at its London office. After training as a language teacher Mary taught English in Germany for 2 years before returning to campaign work for the International Transport Workers’ Federation on a project with global reach.

Mary then returned to study for an MSc in International Relations in Southampton, where she also completed her PhD.

Taking up her first post in Southampton University Centre for Learning and Teaching in 2005, as Education Development Advisor, Mary led on a range of initiatives to reward teaching staff and enhance education across the University.

In 2006/7 she successfully project-managed the Institutional Audit. She then moved on to manage a large and diverse project to widen employer engagement before joining the Business School.

How to update your 'biography' section

You can update your biography section in Pure (opens in a new tab). Select your ‘Personal’ tab then ‘Edit profile’. Under the heading, and ‘Curriculum and research description’, select ‘Add profile information’. In the dropdown menu, select - ‘Biography’. Aim for no more than 400 words.

This section will only appear if you enter the information into Pure (opens in a new tab).

Prizes
You can update this section in Pure (opens in a new tab). Select ‘+Add content’ and then ‘Prize’. using the ‘Prizes’ section.

You can choose to hide prizes from your public profile. Set the visibility as ‘Backend’ to only show this information within Pure, or ‘Confidential’ to make it visible only to you.
