If you want to tackle adventurous and novel research challenges, we'd like to hear from you.
We aim to foster cutting-edge interdisciplinary research in a world-class research environment and are looking to attract a diverse cohort of researchers to nurture research excellence and innovation. We support Anniversary Fellows to achieve their research and other career aspirations.
As an Anniversary Fellow you will be on a clear pathway to building an excellent track-record of research, innovation and impact. You will have a vision for future leadership, complement and extend research within the University and forge new areas of focus. The scheme builds in a focus on research and innovation; with time, the Fellows will take up the full range of core academic activities, including teaching and academic leadership.
We offer:
- a world-class research environment
- independent research funding, covering salary costs
- additional funding for research expenses
- access to mentoring, career development and networking across the University
- support to successfully apply for a permanent academic post, subject to performance
Eligibility
Our scheme is open to researchers with the potential to develop into research leaders in their field.
Suitable candidates are expected to have:
- a PhD in a relevant field or equivalent
- started to establish a reputation for top quality research
- a demonstrable upwards career trajectory
- strong leadership qualities and interpersonal skills
- an enthusiasm for developing skills in teaching, leadership, impact and engagement
There are no eligibility rules based on years of post-doctoral experience, as this does not allow for variations of career paths across disciplines. We recognise that women and people of Black, Asian and minority ethnicities are underrepresented in academia. We want to change this and particularly encourage applications from these groups as well as applications from candidates who identify as LGBTQ+; working class, first generation Higher Education, the Global South and other underrepresented groups such as people with disabilities. The scheme is open to both UK and international candidates.
How we'll assess you
You'll be assessed on your quality, potential, trajectory and track record, relative to your career stage.
You should demonstrate:
- a proven track record of research commensurate with your career stage and discipline
- original and inspiring research plans
- potential for independent and interdisciplinary research
- aptitude to lead and inspire others
- potential to act as an ambassador in your research field
- commitment and consideration of equality, diversity and inclusion
