Set up a staff secondment

Business secondments provide an opportunity to acquire new skills and experience in a different environment.

About secondments

We will work with you to set up a secondment that meets your organisation's needs.

Our flexible secondments:

  • are 1 to 2 years long but can be shorter
  • are usually part time with secondees spending 3 days on secondment and 2 days in their usual role
  • can be hybrid or remote
  • can be either outbound or inbound

Benefits

Secondments provide opportunities for:

  • the local community, government departments, healthcare trusts and other higher education institutions to work together
  • organisations to share knowledge and expertise
  • organisations to improve staff retention through career development

Outbound secondments

Host a member of our academic and research staff within your organisation.

Institutional funding from UKRI means we can support staff to work with you on a project and share knowledge and expertise.

We can also arrange an outbound secondment through a Knowledge Transfer Partnership.

Inbound secondments

An inbound secondment is a great way for your employees to widen their experience by working at the University.

From time-to-time we require specific skills or abilities to fulfil a particular role or project. We offer these fixed-term positions as secondments.

As a secondee you'll have visitor access to a wide range of University services and facilities. You'll also be covered by our visitor policies and guidance.
