About

Luca joined the Faculty of Medicine in September 2022 and he is based in the School of Primary Care, Population Sciences and Medical Education.

He leads the Medical Humanities module (Student Selected Unit 2) and, in his Senior Tutor role, Luca provides pastoral support for students in Years 1 and 2.  He is also the Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) lead. Luca is keen on promoting interdisciplinary approaches and intercultural awareness, crucial for the 21st-century medical curriculum. He is particularly interested in how arts and humanities as well as TEL can be embedded in the medical education to promote a more holistic and compassionate approach to patient care.

Educated both in Europe (University of Bologna, Italy) and in the UK (Universities of Birmingham and Kent), Luca has an interdisciplinary background in medical humanities, philosophy, and history of psychoanalysis.

In the last ten years, Luca has taught and supported UG and PG students at the Universities of Kent, Southampton and Winchester in a variety of educational roles as lecturer, academic and pastoral tutor, peer-learning supervisor, and in a range of academic fields, including medical education, humanities, and social sciences.
