Research project

Balancing the impact of City Infrastructure on Natural systems using Robots

Project overview

The project entitled: “Balancing the impact of City Infrastructure Engineering on Natural systems using Robots”, was a collaborative research project between Leeds, Birmingham, UCL and the UoS (Prior PI). The emphasis of the research was to use robots to undertake difficult, dangerous, dull and dirty tasks within an urban setting; the goal was to reduce service disruption to zero by 2050. Over the following five years, I focused on designing, building and testing air platforms to perch on street furniture and undertake manipulation tasks, such as inspection and environmental monitoring. Elements of the work have also involved liaising with the CAA over permission to fly.
