Research project

Investigating the crust patterns and dust emission from the centre of Etosha Pan, Namibia

Project overview

Etosha Pan is potentially one of the most significant sources of aeolian dust in the southern hemisphere and, as both a groundwater and surface-water fed salt pan system, it also represents a globally significant source ‘type’ that is responsible for major dust loadings in the global atmosphere. The goal of our work at Etosha is to provide the first field-based characterisation of dust emissions from a 'hot-spot' on Etosha Pan.
